When later, especially in South Africa, I saw the beautiful handwriting of lawyers and young men born and educated in South Africa, I was ashamed of myself and repented of my neglect. I saw that bad handwriting should be regarded as a sign of an imperfect education. I tried later to improve mine, but it was too late. I could never repair the neglect of my youth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ins Deutsche \u00fcbersetzt:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ich wei\u00df nicht, wie ich zu der Meinung gekommen war, da\u00df zur Bildung nicht unbedingt eine gute Handschrift geh\u00f6rt, aber ich behielt diese Meinung, bis ich nach England kam. Als ich sp\u00e4ter, vor allem in S\u00fcdafrika, sah, was f\u00fcr eine sch\u00f6ne Handschrift junge M\u00e4nner und Rechtsanw\u00e4lte hatten, die in S\u00fcdafrika geboren und ausgebildet worden waren, sch\u00e4mte ich mich und bedauerte meine Nachl\u00e4ssigkeit. Ich begriff, da\u00df eine schlechte Handschrift der Ausdruck einer unvollkommenen Erziehung war. Sp\u00e4ter versuchte ich, meine Handschrift zu verbessern, aber es war zu sp\u00e4t.
